Spirit Hands - Day 1

A solo developer´s journey: bringing high-skill, deep-mechanic roguelite gameplay to iOS. Follow the development journey of an offline-first, skill-based action game designed to challenge the status quo of mobile gaming.

The Mobile Gaming Problem 🛠️

Mobile games started feeling the same to me. And I think you are feeling that too. Everything became menus, timers, daily rewards, and systems designed to keep you logging in instead of actually playing. So I started building the kind of game I always wanted to see on the App Store. Not a casual time-killer.

  • Something deeper.
  • Something mechanical.
  • Something difficult.

I am a solo developer, and I am starting a journey to build the next-gen mobile roguelite: A high-complexity, deep-mechanic roguelike that belongs in the same conversation as Hades, Noita, and Binding of Isaac. I’m currently developing a 2D top-down roguelite action game for iOS using Swift + SpriteKit. The project is called Spirit Hands.

Spirit Hands

The dead do not stay silent.
During each run, fallen Spirits bind themselves to your hands, transforming the way you fight, move, and survive.

Every Spirit changes combat.

Every weapon changes the Spirits.

Every run becomes something different.

Some builds will make you feel unstoppable.
Others will barely keep you alive. But beneath the endless battles lies a single question:

Who took your hands from you… and why are they afraid of your return?

Don’t lose hope…

The Goal

I want combat to feel:

  • fast
  • skill-based
  • replayable
  • expressive
  • and unpredictable

No pay-to-win systems. No forced online nonsense but online 1v1 with leaderboards. No autoplay. Just gameplay.

This Is Day 1

Right now there is:

  • no final art style
  • no complete story
  • a small game prototype

I’ll be documenting the entire journey:

  • debugging
  • tips and tricks
  • mechanics
  • failures
  • experiments
  • and all the chaos of building a game solo

Let’s see where this goes.

Peace out. ✌️
